The Palm Springs Cultural Center is pleased to announce the 2012 screening schedule for the twelfth annual Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival which opens on Thursday, May 10th and continues through Sunday, May 13th, 2012.
“I've tried to keep the festival fresh by programming quality movies that either aren't on DVD or otherwise haven't been viewed on a big screen for many years.” said writer and film historian Alan K. Rode, the festival's programmer and host since 2008. “A couple of classics on this year's schedule that never become stale are THE BIG HEAT (1953) and POSSESSED (1947). THE BIG HEAT stars Glenn Ford in one of his most renowned performances as a hard-as-nails copper seeking vengeance against a powerful syndicate while POSSESSED showcases Joan Crawford at the top of her game in an unforgettable Oscar nominated performance as a psychotic woman seeking love at all costs.”
“Glenn Ford fans are in for a special treat this year,” Rode continued, “because Glenn Ford’s son, Peter, will be the special guest at THE BIG HEAT screening to discuss his father's life and career. Peter will also be signing his book Glenn Ford, A Life in the Camelot Theatres lobby prior to the afternoon screening of THE BIG HEAT.”
Other films in the 2012 film schedule include SHIELD FOR MURDER (1954) with special guest William Schallert, a film that Rode calls "a noirish take on the American Dream", I LOVE TROUBLE (1948) a hard-boiled detective mystery laden with smarmy dialogue penned by the legendary TV producer Roy Huggins, SLAUGHTER ON TENTH AVENUE (1957) a fact-based crime drama in the tradition of ON THE WATERFRONT with an all-star cast of Richard Egan, Julia Adams, Jan Sterling, Sam Levine, Dan Duryea and Charles McGraw and "one of the most poignant films nobody has ever seen" THE FACE BEHIND THE MASK (1941) starring the one and only Peter Lorre. None of these four films are available on DVD, and all of them are being screened from new 35mm prints.
